10-year-old gone for more than 24 hours
A 10-year-old boy who was reported missing Thursday evening has been found, according to the Albert Lea Police Department.
Police had issued a plea to the public at 9:51 p.m., asking for help in finding Anthony Lee Cully. He was reported found less than an hour later at 10:36 p.m.
The boy, described as being 4 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 85 pounds, had been missing for more than 24 hours, said J.D. Carlson, deputy director of police.
Cully was last seen wearing gray wind pants with a red stripe and a long-sleeve gray shirt and may have been in possession of a black monster blackpack.
Carlson said the boy’s mother had received a call from her son to see if he could play football after school on Wednesday, but when she went to pick him up at Hawthorne School park at about 5 p.m. he was not there.
He was found to be with a friend and his family at a residence on 609 St. Peter Ave. on Thursday night.
Carlson said the mother told police she thought she had to wait 24 hours to report the incident to authorities.
The boy was found with the help of Albert Lea School District officials, who helped identify some of his friends at school.
Carlson reassured the public that there is no time frame that a parent has to wait before reporting a missing child.
