“It’s an incredible honor to receive this award from such a great group,” Savick said. “Our firefighters and fire chiefs do amazing work to help keep us safe. They deserve our support, and I’m happy to stand with them.”

During the 2013 session, Savick helped passed a bill that reformed the audit process for local fire department pensions. The bill helped ensure audits would not create an undue financial burden for the departments that rely largely on volunteers and work on limited budgets.

She also chief authored legislation in 2014 establishing a pilot program to give a $500 stipend to volunteer firefighters, first responders and EMTs in 14 rural counties, including Freeborn and Faribault counties, across Minnesota.
