AUSTIN — Austin native Charlie Parr is coming home to Austin Wednesday night for a concert that will benefit local veterans and could be released as a live record.

Austin’s Jesse Smith will kick off the show at 7:30 p.m. at Austin’s VFW, 300 Fourth Ave. NE. Parr, a folksinger now living in Duluth, will play at 9 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for the show, and all proceeds will be go to Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, a group that provides resources and volunteers to help veterans and active service members.

Parr will record his performance with the hopes of releasing it as a live album — if all goes right.

“We’ve been recording a few shows,” Parr said. “We’re going to record this one to see if we can’t put it together for a live record at some point.”

However, Parr said several variables have to come together for the live recording to make it to a release. Most importantly, Parr said he’ll need to have a strong show, and then the acoustics and recording quality will need to be right. Parr said it’s not fair to the crowd to stop and spend time getting those things right during a concert.

“The people who are sitting there, they come first,” Parr said. “It’s a show for them.”

Along with benefiting Beyond the Yellow Ribbon,  Wednesday’s show will also serve to kick off the VFW’s winter concert series.
