ALDEN — One place locals can ring in the impending new year is the Alden American Legion Post 404.

The Legion, 151 N. Broadway, will have New Year’s festivities starting around 7 p.m. New Year’s Eve, said Dave Rasmussen, manager of the Legion since April. Rasmussen said Rak Karaoke will start up between 7 and 8 p.m. and will likely go until around midnight, or 12:30 or 12:45 a.m. if the crowd is still going strong.

There will be drink specials going all night, two of which will be Jell-O shots and one that the bartender will come up with, Rasmussen said. The Legion will continue serving customers until last call around 12:45 a.m., and will close at 1 a.m. There will be pizzas, and Rasmussen said some people bring in meat and cheese trays and other kinds of snacks for the festivities.

Rasmussen said it’s hard to gauge how many people will ring in the new year at the bar, as it depends on certain factors like the weather, what kinds of other events are going on in the area and how far from home people are willing to drive at that time of night.

“We always like to see it packed,” said Rasmussen. “Come out and have some fun.”
