DULUTH — The city of Duluth says some of the video taken by police body cameras should be kept private. But, the state says no.
Patrol officers in Duluth have been wearing body cameras since July. The cameras promote transparency, but they’re also raising privacy concerns about video taken inside private residences. One case involves an officer-involved shooting last August.
The city recently asked the state to temporarily classify some police video as private until the Minnesota Legislature can address the issue. The request listed several categories of concern, including mental health crises and domestic assault responses. The state denied that request.
