He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Hazel Elaine Peterson. He is also survived by sons David (Sherrie), Greg (Debbie) and Kevin (Joan) and his daughter, Kathleen Cameron (James). He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

John “Jack” demonstrated a great love for his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. That love was often manifested in his prayers and in the joy he exuded when surrounded by his family — in particular — the little ones.

Jack was active in his church from an early age, serving in various men’s ministries and for a time as a deacon. He worked as an off-set printing pressman for more than 40 years. He and Hazel made their home in Joliet until 2007 when they moved to Clarks Grove to be near their daughter.

Jack was known to be a friend to everyone he met. He enjoyed helping friends and family in many different ways, often involving the repair of something mechanical (automobiles, bicycles, lawn mowers, etc.). He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by family and friends alike.

Jack went to his rest after a long and valiant battle with metastatic cancer. Throughout this more than 13-year battle, he maintained a positive perspective and even helped others who were suffering from cancer as well. Although often in pain, he seldom complained or drew attention to himself. He now knows no pain but rather pure joy before the Lord.

A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Clarks Grove with a visitation one hour before with family. The Rev. Jamie Cameron will officiate. Gifts and flowers can be sent in his memory to First Baptist Church. Interment will be at a later date in Illinois.
