MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau is condemning the killing of two New York City police officers, but overall there has been no change in protocol for local law enforcement.

Harteau sent a missive to rank-and-file officers on Sunday saying: “The assassination of two NYPD officers yesterday is outrageous and unacceptable!” Spokesman Scott Seroka says officers go to work every day thinking something like this is possible.

NYPD officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu were killed Saturday by a man who authorities say vowed online to kill two “pigs.”

Local activists said there is no connection between protests against police brutality and the actions of Ismaaiyl Brinsley in New York. Former Minneapolis police chief Tony Bouza said it would be wrong to blame the movement.
