Minnesota considers transgender athlete policy

BROOKLYN CENTER — The Minnesota State High School League is making some changes to a proposed policy on transgender student-athletes in high school sports after tabling the guidelines earlier this year.
The board made adjustments Wednesday ahead of a vote scheduled for today.
A version made public at the meetings would have essentially made the policy optional for school districts. But that idea drew concerns about inconsistent approaches among districts as schools deal with eligibility questions.
Another change would exempt religious schools.
Before the workshop, a league subcommittee heard additional testimony from about a dozen speakers, including some groups that have lobbied strongly for or against the proposal.
