DALHART, Texas — Authorities said an 11-year-old boy was among three people from Phoenix killed in a two-car accident on icy roads in the Texas Panhandle.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said Sunday that five others were also injured, including a 68-year-old Minnesota woman who was in critical condition at an Amarillo hospital. An 11-month-old boy was also hurt.

The accident happened Saturday morning near Dalhart. A strong winter cold front had dumped about four inches of snow on the area.

Authorities said a Chevrolet Tahoe carrying the three Arizona residents was driving too fast for road conditions and spun into oncoming traffic, striking a 2012 Buick.

The adults killed were identified as 34-year-old Paz Alejandra Rocha and 38-year-old Gilberto Garcia Perez. The name of the boy was not released.
