Six Albert Lea wrestlers are ranked in the Guillotine’s Class AA polls.
Only one of them competed Monday during a triangular at Mankato West, and the Tigers still crushed Rochester Century 67-7 and Mankato West 49-21.
“It was a good night to get some kids on varsity and still win matches,” said Albert Lea coach Larry Goodnature. “The kids wrestled well; the whole bunch.”

The No. 4 Tigers improved to 5-0 in Big Nine Conference duals.
“Our goal this year is to win the Big Nine championship, and you’ve got to take them one at a time,” Goodnature said.
Owatonna entered Monday as the only other undefeated team in the conference. The Huskies have three ranked wrestlers in Class AAA and will host the Tigers at 7 p.m. Jan. 24.
At the triangular, taking the place of No. 3 Zach Glazier at 106 pounds was Joe Peterson and Jake Johnsrud. Peterson beat Mankato West’s Josh Block with a 17-6 major decision, and Johnsrud pinned Rochester Century’s Shawn Hayungs in 3:43.
At 120 pounds, Ty Harms went 1-1 in place of No. 1 Garrett Aldrich. Santana Acosta filled in for No. 5 Devin Nelson with a fall and a technical fall. Mason Hammer subbed for No. 7 Dereck Samudio at 152 pounds and won a decision and fall. No. 9 Tim Christianson won by forfeit in both of his matches, and Riet Lony went 1-1 with a forfeit win at 220 pounds in place of No. 2 Triston Westerlund.
Jared Larsen, Brody Neilsen, Chris Nelson, Parker Mullenbach, Dominick Fadden, Jesse Hernandez, Dylan Lestrud, Brent Hanson and Tanner Palmer also picked up wins.
Next, the Tigers will host their Take Down Cancer event against Plainview-Elgin-Millville at 5 p.m. Thursday. Goodnature said proceeds will go to Grace Andersen, an Albert Lea High School student who was diagnosed with leukemia.
The second Freedom Night of the season will be against Rochester John Marshall at 7 p.m. Jan. 22, and the team will have its first Alumni Wrestling Day against No. 2 Class A Adrian at 3 p.m. Jan. 31. Past and present members of the military get free admission on Freedom Night, and Goodnature said he would like them to sign in to be announced before all other regular season home matches as well.
