50 years ago: 1965
• Terry Gilbertson shot the winning basket with eight seconds remaining for Albert Lea in its 55-54 victory over Owatonna. Jim Bratvold led the Tigers scoring with 21 points. The Tigers evened their record at 5-5 with the win.
• The Albert Lea wrestling team defeated Owatonna 20-17. Winning matches for the Tigers were Mark Allen, 95 pounds; Bob Hatch, 112; Ken Stauch, 120; Gary Neist, 127; Ken Stencel, 138; Chuck Jean, 165; and Tom Countryman, 175.
• Goalie Rick Peterson recorded his first shutout in the Albert Lea hockey team’s 4-0 win over Shattuck. Scoring goals for the Tigers were Wayne Freemyer, 2, Doyle Freemyer and Mark Peterson. The Tigers improved their record to 8-2.
25 years ago: 1990
• The Alden-Conger-Freeborn girls’ basketball team defeated NRHEG 63-24 and moved into a first place tie in the Gopher Conference with Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton. The Knights were led by Darcy Evenson with 23 points.
• Shannon Froendt scored 23 points for Glenville-Emmons in its 66-57 basketball victory over Medford.
• The NRHEG boys’ basketball team raised its season record to 8-3 after defeating Alden-Conger-Freeborn 82-51. The Panthers were led by Tyler Peterson with 21 points and Steve Johnson with 19.
• Kate Johnson hit four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to lead Rochester Mayo to 62-58 win over the Albert Lea girls’ basketball team. Pam Stoltz scored 26 points for the Tigers, and Johnson had 22 for Mayo.
10 years ago: 2005
• The Albert Lea girls’ hockey team won its third consecutive game after defeating Owatonna 3-2. Scoring goals for the Tigers were Amy Leach, Heather Bagley and Tessa Christenson.
• Jarrad Knutson scored 23 points, Tyler Ziebell, 13, and Dustin Rayman, 12, for Glenville-Emmons in its 73-68 win over Grand Meadow.
• The Albert Lea girls’ basketball team defeated Rochester John Marshall 51-43. Kat Ladwig scored 14 points and Nicki Hendrickson, 11, for the Tigers.
