Everyone is invited to join the Albert Lea High School choir’s celebration of the power of music in their students’ lives with their concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the high school auditorium, according to a press release.
The concert will feature the Tiger womens choir, Tiger choir, varsity choir and concert choir. The choirs are directed by Diane Heaney and Mary Bissen, as well as student teacher Kalle Akkerman.
Tickets for the concert are $7 and $5 and are available at the door. Music concert passes are also good for this concert.
This concert is a special concert since March has been designated as Music in Our Schools Month by the National Association for Music Education. This year’s theme is “Change the World.” In addition, the Minnesota Chapter of Music Educators has a new initiative entitled “Music Makes Me Whole.” Students will state their thoughts on the positive aspects of music study throughout the concert.
Students involved with music in Albert Lea are highly involved in many other school activities including sports, mock trial, drama, speech, BPA, FFA, National Honor Society and numerous other clubs and organizations. About 60 members of the choirs participated in the solo and ensemble contest Jan. 24 at Lakeville High School. The Tiger choir students recently went to the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre to see a professional production of “Mary Poppins.” The varsity choir will go to the Ordway to see a production from Minnesota Opera, and 75 members of the concert choir will leave soon on a choral tour of Hawaii.
Choir students’ names can often be found on honor roll lists for every school term. They serve as positive community role models and ambassadors for Albert Lea wherever they perform.
