Eugene Orth, 1939-2015

Funeral services for Eugene “Gene” Orth of Albert Lea will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Life Christian Church in Albert Lea.The Rev. Vern Harris will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Lansing Cemetery in Lansing.

Eugene died Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at St Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was 75.

Gene was born Aug. 17, 1939, in Mower County, the son of Roy and Erma (May) Orth. He was a graduate of Austin High School.

On Aug. 24, 1957, he was united in marriage to Joyce Hardy in Austin.

Gene had been engaged in farming in his younger years and then spent many years with Wilson & Co. in Albert Lea. He was a member of Church of Christ (New Life Christian Church), the Eagles Club, Moose Lodge and the Elks.

Gene loved hunting, fishing, gardening, travel, bird watching, music, motorcycling and stock car racing. Special times in his life were enjoyed with family and the grandchildren.

Gene is survived by his wife, Joyce; children Ken Orth of Minneapolis, Christine Orth (Daniel Colstrup) of Albert Lea, Curtis (Lori) Orth of Falcon, Colorado, and Sheila Orth of Albert Lea; grandchildren Daniel Orth, Sierra (Demery) Renaldo, Sammuel Orth, Lauren (David) Hoffman, Ethan Orth, Andrea Orth, Garret Orth, Megan Orth and Jennifer (Lewis) Baumann; four great-grandchildren, Oliver, Lucy, Cohen and Kellan; one brother, Robert Orth, of Aurora, Colorado; sisters Mary (Robert) Baker of Austin  and Connie (Morris) Gibson of Houston; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
