Audrey Haugsdal, 1928-2015

Audrey Elaine Haugsdal, 86, of Lake Mills died Friday, April 24, 2015, at her home in Lake Mills surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Emmons Lutheran Church in Emmons with the Rev. Christopher W. Martin officiating. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St. in Lake Mills and was again one hour prior to the service at the church. Cremation will take place after the funeral service and inurnment will take place at a later date in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Emmons.

Audrey Elaine Larson Haugsdal was born at her home in Sharp’s Corner, Mansfield Township, on Oct. 12, 1928, to Hannah Elvira and Melvin James Larson. She was baptized and confirmed in the country Swede Church.

Audrey attended school in Kiester, graduating in the class of 1946. While cheerleading at an Emmons vs. Kiester High School football game, she met Ray Haugsdal who became the love of her life. Audrey and Ray were married on her 19th birthday, Oct. 12, 1947, on the Larson family farm in Sharp’s Corner.

Audrey and Ray made their home at the Haugsdal farm south of Emmons and raised five children: Teresa, Susan, Bruce, Kathleen and Craig.  Audrey was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, gardening and canning her harvest. But most of all, she loved and was devoted to her family. Her children are forever grateful for her unconditional love, nurturing and giving spirit and her strong faith.

Audrey was an active member of Emmons Lutheran Church serving on many boards and committees, including serving as chairman of the Lutefisk supper.

Audrey and Ray enjoyed travel and had many memorable trips to places including California, Hawaii, Arizona, Oregon, Alaska, Sweden, Denmark and Norway.

Audrey is survived by her children: Teresa Brua and Sally Schroeder of Lebanon, Oregon, Bruce (Maureen) Haugsdal of Albert Lea, Kathleen (Larry) Vold of Joice, Iowa, and Craig (Cindy) Haugsdal of Northwood; grandchildren Cory (Brenda) Brua of Lake Mills, Nicole (Russ) Behrens of Grinnell, Iowa, Sara (Lance) Fredericksen of Wallingford, Iowa, Amy (Scott) Boettcher of Stewartville, Ryan (Renee) Haugsdal of Albert Lea, Anna (Jason) Calcote of Minneapolis, Peter Vold of Oregon, Wisconsin, Michael (Jaclyn) Haugsdal, Coralville, Iowa, and Kari (Jerod) Osheim, Northwood; great-grandchildren Cole, Danielle and Hayden Brua, Hannah and Claire Behrens, Madigan and Lydia Fredericksen, Bo and Blake Boettcher, Addyson, Garrett, and Grant Haugsdal, Weston Calcote, and Audrey and Isabel Haugsdal.

Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; daughter Susan Rae Haugsdal; parents, Vera and Melvin Larson; sisters Marian Bowater and Nona Koch; and granddaughter Dana Patrice Haugsdal.
