Residents looking to get a new job or to widen their skills can stop at Northbridge Mall on Tuesday for a job and career fair.
A collaboration between the Minnesota WorkForce Center, Cedar Valley Services, Hy-Vee and the Albert Lea Tribune, the event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. People are encouraged to come in the main doors of the mall near Plaza Morena.
About 50 businesses are estimated to have tables set up with information about job openings and other opportunities, said Valerie Kvale, placement specialist with Workforce Development Inc. Kvale said there will be everything from manufacturing, health care, retail and other staffing agencies in attendance.
Businesses from Albert Lea to as far away as Lake Mills, Thompson, Iowa, and Rochester will be in attendance, along with representatives from Riverland Community College, North Iowa Area Community College and Kaplan University to showcase post-secondary opportunities.
Kvale encouraged people to dress business casual.
“You’re making a first impression, and you can never replace your first impression,” she said. “If you’re walking up to someone and introduce yourself, if you’re dressed nicely, you’ve already scored points.”
She said there will be opportunities to fill out applications, and if people have resumes, they should bring them.
“The biggest thing is put a smile on your face and dress business casual,” Kvale said. “Look presentable, and from there the opportunity is up to them.”
