The public is invited to attend an open house hosted by Freeborn County and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources regarding the general welfare of Freeborn Lake on Tuesday, according to a press release. The open house will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Freeborn City Hall, 402 Park St.
According to Jeanine Vorland, DNR area wildlife supervisor, there have been long term issues with water and habitat quality in the lake.
“Too frequently, the water looks like pea soup in the open water months,” she said. “We want to get input from stakeholders to see if they are interested in improving water quality, plant diversity and outdoor recreation derived from improved fish and wildlife.”
Representatives from Freeborn County, the Department of Natural Resources Fisheries and Wildlife Offices and others will be available to discuss current lake conditions and what can be done to help improve the lake. The meeting is open to anyone interested in Freeborn Lake. For more information, contact Vorland at 507-379-3401.
Freeborn Lake is a 2,222 acre lake located near the town of Freeborn.
