Callers asking for donations to fire departments
The Albert Lea Fire Department is warning the public about a potential scam involving donations to local fire departments.
The department sent out a news release about the scams Thursday morning.
It stated residents have received phone calls from a group requesting funds to assist firefighters within the state.
When asked, the caller would not identify who they were representing, other than to state that the money donated would be funding for local fire departments.
The Albert Lea Fire Department stated it has not endorsed any group for this purpose and noted that no funding from this group has come back to the city or state.
“Be aware this may be a possible scam,” the release states. “Never give out personal information to include social security numbers, banking account or credit card information.
