Helen Helland, 1919-2015

Helen M. Helland, 95, of White Bear Lake, formerly of Albert Lea, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015, at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Paul from complications of a stroke and pneumonia. A memorial celebration will be from 5 to 9 p.m. April 25 at Shoreview Hampton Inn, 1000 Gramsie Rd. in Shoreview. RSVPs are requested by e-mail to john.r.helland@gmail.com.

Helen was born in Albert Lea March 27, 1919, and lived there almost all her life. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1935 and retired from Interstate Power Company in 1984. She was well known by her family and friends for her detailed memories of a vast number of historical and personal events she experienced. She enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also an active member of First Lutheran Church, participating in various committees over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur Anderson and Hilda (Borgen) Anderson; and by brothers Carroll and Arthur.

She is survived by sons Gerald (Emerita) Helland of Champlin and John (Mary) Helland of Tallahassee, Florida; as well as  grandchildren Gerald (Lee) Helland Jr. of Bloomfield, New Jersey, Angela Helland (Nathan Schilling) of Beacon, New York, Michelle (Peter) Pettersen of Anacortes, Washington, Timothy Helland of Los Angeles, Sarah Lowell (Paul), Tallahassee; and great-grandchildren Cabot Helland, Oscar and Violet Schilling, Zoey, Elsie, and Kenzie Pettersen, and Johnathan and Kayla Lowell.
