RED WING — Authorities say a hiker has fallen to his death from a closed bluff trail in Red Wing.
Employees from the city’s wastewater treatment plant located at the base of Barn Bluff called police about 1 p.m. Tuesday after spotting the stranded hiker on a steep incline on the bluff’s north side.
Not long after first responders arrived, they saw the man fall and land on railroad tracks below. The man was hiking with his wife on a dangerous portion of a trail that has been closed for two years.
The 340-foot bluff is popular with those looking for a scenic overlook of the Mississippi River and the city of Red Wing. Two others have died in falls from the bluff in the last four years.
