MINNEAPOLIS — The Minneapolis Police Department says it’s investigating a video that purports to show an officer threatening to break the leg of a teen suspect if he tried to escape.

The incident, which allegedly happened last month, is the subject of a short camera phone video that’s circulating via social media. The officer’s face is not visible, and it’s not clear what led to the arrest. The Somali-American subject can be heard asking why he was being arrested.

Police spokesman John Elder says the department is unable to comment on the content of the video for now. But he says complaints against officers are taken seriously and investigated to the fullest extent.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations on Friday called on the U.S. Department of Justice to open an independent investigation.
