A written reprimand issued in January against Albert Lea City Manager Chad Adams has been removed from his personnel file, the mayor announced Monday.

The reprimand was tied to a violation of the city’s respectful workplace policy.

“Due to the council’s belief in Mr. Adams, goals were set up for the removal of the written reprimand from his file,” said Albert Lea Mayor Vern Rasmussen. “The goals have been met and the reprimand has been removed from the file.”

The reprimand referenced a section in the respectful workplace policy that called for avoiding certain conduct in the workplace, including “rudeness, angry outbursts … or any other behavior regarded as offensive to a reasonable person.”

The mayor’s announcement came after the City Council completed Adams’ annual review last month. The review evaluates various categories on a one to three scale.

Rasmussen said the council determined Adams met or exceeded all categories.

“The council is pleased with the work of our city manager and look forward to progressing with him into the future,” Rasmussen said.

Adams has served as Albert Lea’s city manager since spring 2011. Prior to that, he was the city administrator in Medina.
