Tigers swing past Rockets

Albert Lea’s on a roll.
Junior Sam Nielson led the girls’ golf team to a 407-463 win over Rochester John Marshall Thursday at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club.
Nielson scored a 97, earning her medalist honors. Freshman Natalie Nafzger scored a 101, eighth-grader Emma Loch a 103 and junior Bailey Sandon a 106 to help the Tigers come out on top. Junior Sara Rasmussen shot a 107 and freshman Kayla Jensen shot a 115, as well.
Thursday’s meet brought the team to a 2-0 record in the Big Nine Conference.
According to coach Shawn Riebe, the team is showing improvement but still has some work to do.
“The girls are still feeling frustrated and know they have room to improve,” he said. “The girls are motivated.”
Next, Albert Lea will face Mankato East at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Northlinks Golf Course.
