Traffic lights to be removed

Published 9:30 am Thursday, April 2, 2015

City crews are scheduled to begin the removal of the traffic lights at Newton Avenue and Clark Street on Monday. The traffic signal will be replaced with a four-way stop. The intersection will be closed to traffic and parking for a period of time during this week.

The city of Albert Lea conducted a study of the traffic signal at the intersection of Newton Avenue and Clark Street. This study was done because of the signal removals at William Street and Broadway and at Clark Street and Broadway. As a result of this study, the traffic signal at Newton Avenue and Clark Street will be removed and replaced with all-way stop signs.

On Sept. 5 the traffic signals were placed on flash and the four-way stop was evaluated through the winter.
