The Minnesota State Fair and the Minnesota Farm Bureau recognized 222 Minnesota farms as 2015 Century Farms, according to a press release. Qualifying farms have been in continuous family ownership for at least 100 years and are 50 acres or more. Century farm families receive a commemorative sign, as well as a certificate signed by the State Fair and Minnesota Farm Bureau presidents and Gov. Mark Dayton. Since the program began in 1976, more than 10,000 Minnesota farms have been recognized as century farms.
Area farms receiving the designation include part of farm No. 150 in Freeborn County/Alden, Chapek Century Farm in Austin, Epland Farm in Emmons; Kurt, Kiven and Cheryl Lukes Farm in Glenville; Leland Farm in Bricelyn; and Yokiel Farm in Wells.
