Albert Lea is a great place to live during the Fourth of July.

With the Third of July Parade, the Freedom Festival, a car show and a water ski show, it’s a time of excitement.

But what would the Fourth of July holiday be without the annual fireworks display over Fountain Lake the night of the Fourth? Some have called it the best fireworks display in southern Minnesota.

Many people watch the display from homes and yards along Fountain Lake, while others sit on the banks of Fountain Lake Park and surrounding area, while yet others watch from the water in boats. It’s part of what makes Independence Day in Albert Lea memorable.

On Friday, the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and other volunteers will be out in partnertship with KATE Radio to raise $16,000 in a day to support the fireworks this summer. Volunteers will stand at the corner of Broadway and Main Street with buckets starting at 6 a.m., and updates will be given about the progress on the radio as the day progresses.

If you are unable to drive by and drop off your donation, there will be buckets placed at several businesses in town. Or, if it is easier, you can send donations to Fourth of July Fireworks Fund, c/o Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber Foundation, 2580 Bridge Ave., Albert Lea, MN 56007.

Let’s show support for this annual tradition.
