Knights take 2nd place at Richfield tournament

The Albert Lea Knights 11AA baseball team took second place out of 12 teams at the Richfield Baseball Inc. Tournament from May 15 to 17, according to a press release.

The Knights’ runner-up finish qualified the team for the state Minnesota Baseball Tournament.

Albert Lea went 3-2 at the tournament. The Knights beat Richfield 7-4, lost 7-4 against Red Wing, beat St. Louis Park 9-3 and Eastview 13-6 before a 5-1 loss against Bloomington in the title game.

Will Steene led Albert Lea with nine hits, two doubles and a .643 batting average. He also struck out 12 batters from the mound.

Braden Fjelsta posted six RBIs, and Dylan Carlson scored seven runs and took a base on balls five times.

The team is coached by Carlson, Karl Eggum, Brad Fjelsta and Chad Steene.
