MINNEAPOLIS — Macy’s has canceled Glamorama, the biggest and longest-running high-fashion event in Minneapolis.

The retailer announced Friday that the fall fashion show would end after 23 years.

The event often drew top acts such as Bruno Mars and Cirque du Soleil, and ticket sales were strong. And the event endured even as its department store sponsor evolved through ownership changes. But consumer preferences for combining designer fashion with practical basics played a part.

The show raised $5.5 million for Children’s Cancer Research Fund in 23 years.
