National Nursing Home Week welcomes spring with a fiesta

In observance of National Nursing Home Week, today through Saturday, skilled nursing care centers across the nation will sponsor events to encourage residents, families and other relatives and friends to “get personal” with their loved ones and caregivers.
Sponsored by the American Health Care Association since 1967, this year’s theme is “Bring on the Fiesta,” which will focus on south-of-the-border activities.
St. John’s Lutheran Community will be having the mayor’s proclamation for National Nursing Home Week at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the main dining room.
“Our national membership of care centers makes this a special time of entertainment and bringing to life the week’s subtheme of Familia, Vida and Amor (Family, Life, Love),” said Mark Parkinson, president and CEO of AHCA. “We hope our residents, patients, and families enjoy the crowds, the activities, and the good feelings engendered by having a fiesta with family.”
Care centers also take this time to honor and recognize staff members for their commitment to work, educational advancement, or professional awards.
