ST. MICHAEL — A relative is being held in the fatal shooting of an off-duty police officer and his 27-year-old son at a home in Wright County.

The sheriff’s department has identified the victims as 49-year-old Todd Besser and his oldest son, Blake. Authorities said the Elk River officer had just gotten off work Saturday evening and went to the home in St. Michael where his three adult sons lived.

The father was found fatally shot in the basement. Blake Besser was found dead in the kitchen of the home.

Investigators said the shooting is the result of a “domestic situation” and they are not seeking any other suspects. Authorities say Todd Besser was living in Otsego.

Sheriff’s officials said the suspected gunman surrendered to officers at a convenience store in nearby Monticello shortly after the shooting.
