A 20th-century classic ballet will be coming to Albert Lea this weekend.

“Ivan the Terrible” comes to the screen from the Bolshoi Ballet at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center.

“Ivan the Terrible” follows Ivan IV of Russia. Ivan must pick a wife and tsarina from one of the 13 Boyar daughters, and he picks Anastasia and the two fall in love. But the Boyar family plots against the tsar and tsarina and poisons Anastasia.

Ivan finds himself surrounded by enemies and eventually descends into madness.

The music for “Ivan the Terrible” is drawn from the 1944 Sergei Eisenstein film score, which was written by Sergei Prokofiev. Scenes of 16th-century Russia are portrayed with stunning visuals and strong, yet graceful choreography.

Tickets for “Ivan the Terrible” are $20 for adults and $12 for students.
