50 years ago: 1965
• The New Richland High School baseball team, behind the two-hit pitching of Bruce Babcock, defeated Blooming Prairie 16-0. Babcock had three hits, and Tommy Bergner added two hits for the Cardinals.
• The Alden High School baseball team defeated Wells 5-1. Freshman Allan Lindeman of the Blackhawks recorded nine strikeouts in the victory. Charles Springer had two hits for Alden.
• Named as the new head basketball coach for the 1965-66 season at Albert Lea High School was Richard Nielson of Granite Falls.
25 years ago: 1990
• The Glenville-Emmons baseball season record stood at 6-0 after defeating Blooming Prairie 11-1. Winning pitcher Scott Fredrickson had 10 strikeouts. The Wolverines were led by Jeff Yost with two hits and a home run and Greg Severtson also with two hits and a home run.
• The Glenville-Emmons girls’ softball team also was victorious over Blooming Prairie by a score of 18-4. Darci Haroldson, Stacia Schroeder, Darci Escherich and Kelly Peterson each had two hits for the Wolverines.
• Inducted into the Freeborn County Softball Hall of Fame were Harlan Hansen and Ralph Stegenga of Hollandale; and Adrian Yokiel and Joe Kirsch of Albert Lea.
10 years ago: 2005
• The Albert Lea boys’ and girls’ golf teams were both winners over Waseca. The Albert Lea boys’ team won 309-357, and the girls’ team won 199-215. Co-medalists for the boys’ team were Beau Larson and Ben Billat of Albert Lea with a score of 75. Matt Bennett shot a score of 79 and Ben Jones an 80 for the Tigers. The scores for the Albert Lea girls’ team were Alli Arnold, 48; Kelli Hanson, 49; April Heilman, 49; and Nicole Stotts, 52.
• The Albert Lea boys’ tennis team defeated Faribault 4-3. Winning matches for the Tigers were Conner Keyeski at No. 2 singles and Andrew Dyrdal at No. 4. Winning doubles matches for Albert Lea were Andrew Haatvedt and Corey Dieser at No. 1 and Jon Bosma and Scott Strom at No. 3.
