50 years ago: 1965
• New Richland High School won the Subdistrict 4 track meet with 79 points, Faribault Academy for the Deaf finished second with 46 points, Medford third with 36.5, Janesville fourth with 24.5 and Morristown fifth with five points. Bill Supalla led New Richland with wins in the 100- and 200-yard dashes.
• In the Subdistrict 2 West baseball tournament, Alden defeated Freeborn 7-5. Al Lindeman was the winning pitcher for Alden, and Greg Smith had two hits and two RBIs.
• Jerry Moja threw a three-hitter for Wells High School in its 4-2 victory in District 5 baseball. Larry Kuster had two RBIs for the Wildcats.
• The Albert Lea baseball team raised its season record 7-6 after defeating Winona 2-1.
25 years ago: 1990
• The Albert Lea boys’ golf team won the Subregion title with a one-stroke win, 326-327, over Northfield. Scores for the Tigers were Todd Intihar, 79; Steve Petersen, 80; Brian Rechtzigal, 83; and Mike Oothoudt, 84.
• In Subregion baseball, Albert Lea defeated Lakeville 3-0 with Derek Fleek picking up the win. Pete Christian and Rick Kruse each had two hits for the Tigers. Chad Hinz had three hits for the Tigers in an 11-9 win in their second game against Northfield.
• The Albert Lea softball team lost to Burnsville 4-1 in Region 1AA and was eliminated from further games.
• The Northwood-Kensett girls’ track team placed third at the Iowa state meet. Junior Heather Amundson won her third straight 800-meter run and her second straight 1,500.
10 years ago: 2005
• In the first round of the Subsection 1A West baseball tournament, Glenville-Emmons defeated LeRoy-Ostrander/Grand Meadow 10-2. Dustin Rayman hit a three-run home run, and Alex Hansen and Josh Kluender each had two hits for the Wolverines. In their second-round game, the Wolverines defeated Faribault Academy 4-2 with Kevin Kaasa as the winning pitcher.
• The United South Central baseball team defeated Cannon Falls 2-0 in the first round of Subsection 1A tournament. Adam Schrader threw a two-hitter and had 15 strikeouts for USC.
