Alden Morin Lake Days activities begin tonight

Alden’s 26th annual Morin Lake Days celebration is scheduled for this weekend in Alden.

The activities begin tonight when Prairie Fire Children’s Theater — with the assistance of about 20 area children — will perform their rendition of “Sleeping Beauty” at 7 p.m at the Alden-Conger’s Knight’s stage. This will be the first showing of the production, which can also be seen again at noon Saturday.

Friday afternoon will see the beginning of the Morin Lake Days Medallion Hunt at noon. The Wes Hintz Fishing Contest will start at 1 p.m. At this same time the community museum will open for self-guided tours until 4 p.m. A barbecue benefit the local boy scouts, a kiddie parade and tractor pull, a softball tournament and home run contest as well as a free family show are planned during the evening hours.

Attendees can fuel up for the Morin Lake Days 3K, three-mile run and one-mile run/walk, which begins at 9 a.m. Saturday by enjoying coffee and treats at the Methodist church or at the Legion pancake breakfast. Both of these events run from 8 to 11 a.m.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Show & Sell will open at Morin Lake. Vendors will be allowed to set up a stand at no cost. The community museum will once again be open during the noon to 4 p.m. time slot as well.

Canoe races and activities are slated from 2 to 4 p.m., while the Morin Days Lake parade will start at 7 p.m. After the parade the Lion’s Club will host pie and ice cream at City Hall with Best of the Best Alden Idol.

Two separate street dances are also scheduled for the evening hours. The teen dance will be from 8 p.m. to midnight on Water Street. The event will be moved into the Alden-Conger School in the case of rain. Mootsies Bar & Grill and the Alden American Legion are sponsoring the adult street dance with the Milo Savage Band from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Fireworks will be shot off over Morin Lake at dusk.

The activities wrap up on Sunday. The Lion’s Club breakfast will run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A Worship by the Water outdoor church service is set for 9:30 a.m., and the drawing for Morin Lake Days will be at noon. Canoes will be available for use at 1 p.m., the softball tournament will continue and the final event of the weekend will be have Alden-Conger fast-pitch girls alumni taking on the 2015 team with coach Gary Nelson.
