Bernice Anderson, 1910-2015

Bernice Anderson, 104, of Blue Earth died Monday, June 15, 2015, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Concordia Bear Lake Lutheran Church, 15554 690th Ave. in Albert Lea. Visitation will be at noon up until the time of the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Bernice was born Sept. 7, 1910, in Freeborn County to Charles and Bertha (Lindeman) Yost. She was baptized and confirmed at Concordia Bear Lake Lutheran Church. She graduated from Emmons High School in 1926. After a year at Mankato Normal College, Bernice taught one room school until her marriage on July 23, 1932, to Ernest R. Anderson. The family lived in Emmons, Wykoff, Elmore, Jasper, Lakefield and Blue Earth.
After raising her children Bernice completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees and taught fourth grade in Blue Earth from 1963 to 1976. Following her retirement from the classroom she taught piano lessons for many years. Her interests included music, travel, Chautauqua book club, card games, gardening and service to her church.
She is survived by two children, Beverly (Murray) Swenson of Hutchinson and Lyle (Ruth) Anderson of Edina; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ellsworth; her sister, Arlene; her husband; and their sons Keith and Roland Ross Anderson.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center, Trinity Lutheran Church or to the donor’s choice.
