The Albert Lea Tribune has welcomed a fun, new summer intern to its small team of workers. She is someone that loves to be spontaneous and live in the moment. She always tells people to do as they please and to not dwell too much on the pros and cons.

Maddy Funk, a 16-year-old upcoming junior, has decided to spend her summer increasing her writing skills by joining the Tribune’s workforce. A couple of fun facts about her are that her favorite color is light blue and she loves to read.

“I read from place to place, especially in the car,” Funk said.

Also, if she is reading in the car, it usually indicates that she is on to another travel destination. Funk has traveled to many places, including Texas and Florida. If she’s not traveling, Funk uses her spare time to stay in shape.

Funk is a role model to her two younger sisters, Katie and Alex. She said even though they may drive her crazy, she works towards being someone they can look up to.

Funk is quite the busy-body. While managing to always be on the academic honor roll, she is involved in many extracurricular activities during and outside of the school year such as soccer, hockey and track. She works hard on Student Council, Youth in Government and the Link Crew, which is a program that helps eighth-graders adjust to high school life.

As if all of these activities are not enough, Funk is even on the staff for the school newspaper, Ahlahasa. Being involved in the newspaper has given her insight on her future goals to be in journalism or politics.

“I like to be busy. It keeps me on my toes and ready for anything,” she said.

After attending her four-year college, Funk hopes to move somewhere around or along the East Coast such as Boston or New York.
