CHERRY TOWNSHIP — Authorities said a northern Minnesota man and his 4-year-old daughter have been hospitalized after being struck by lightning.
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s office said a 51-year-old from Virginia was at a Cherry Township recreational facility carrying his daughter when lightning struck them Sunday afternoon.
The sheriff’s office said bystanders who administered CPR revived the man at the scene.
The girl was taken by ambulance to a Duluth hospital. Her father was taken to a hospital in Hibbing before being transferred to the Duluth hospital, where he was in critical condition.
The sheriff’s office said the girl’s injuries were believed to be less serious.
A forecaster at the Duluth office of the National Weather Service reported that thunderstorms popped up across northeastern Minnesota throughout the day Sunday, often with little warning.
