50 years ago: 1965

• Home Lumber defeated Northside Mobil 21-20 in an Albert Lea Women’s Softball League game. Alice Peterson was the winning pitcher. Mary Anderson had five hits in six at-bats for Northside Mobil.

• In Albert Lea City League fast pitch results, Thorson’s defeated Trades and Labor 10-3, and Smith Douglass Cargill was victorious over Hamn’s Main Billiards 19-7. Ron Mathews was the winning pitcher, and Dave Long had three hits for Thorson’s in their win. Kenny Sibilrud pitched the win for Smith Douglass Cargill.

• Don Thompson of Albert Lea shot a hole-in-one on the 301-yard 13th hole at the Green Lea Golf Course. It was the first time a hole-in-one was recorded on the 13th hole.

• Freeborn improved to 2-1 in the amateur State Line Baseball League after defeating Glenville. Winning pitcher Al Jensen also had two RBIs.

• Albert Lea Federal defeated the Evening Tribune 15-3 in the Albert Lea City Slow-Pitch League. Dick Hassler was the winning pitcher. Bill Danielson homered for Federal.

 

25 years ago: 1990

• The Albert Lea and Faribault American Legion baseball teams split a doubleheader. Faribault won the first game 8-7, and Albert Lea won the second 8-2. Pete Christian hit a grand slam home run for Albert Lea in the first game. Chad Hinz was the winning pitcher for Albert Lea in the second game. Hinz, Aaron Davis and Rick Kruse each had two hits in the win for Albert Lea.

• The Glenville-Emmons American Legion baseball team raised its season record to 6-0 with a 13-1 victory over Blooming Prairie. The winning pitcher was Paul Ahearn, and Doug Yost had two hits for Glenville-Emmons.

 

10 years ago: 2005

• The Albert Lea American Legion baseball team defeated Owatonna 2-1 behind pitcher Brandon Klukow.

• The Albert Lea Elks U13 girls’ soccer team defeated Eagen 5-1. The U13 girls’ season record improved to 7-1-1.
