In the finishing phase of an $11 million renovation project, Thorne Crest Senior Living Community has seen major changes.
In addition to upgrades in essentially every area of the building, it now has an updated name and logo.
A new wellness center and attached resident parking have been finished for a few months, and a new elevator and assisted living area are almost completed.
“It’s truly beautiful and accommodating for today and tomorrow’s seniors,” said Karen Anderson, marketing and sales director.
Owned by American Baptist Homes of the Midwest, Thorne Crest opened in 1974. It was one of the first retirement communities in the area and had 100 apartments and 45 nursing home beds at that time. Most of the building was originally a Catholic school.
A faith-based community, Thorne Crest offers a continuum of care.
Anderson said the only requirement for a person to live in the new independent living apartments is that they need to be over the age of 62.
For the assisted living section, residents pay a monthly fee, can be as independent as they are able and can get help with whatever they may need. Three meals are served a day, and housekeeping, laundry and transportation are provided as needed, along with other services.
There is also a memory care area, which has nine secured apartments with dining and social areas.
The 52-bed health center offers 24-hour care for those who need more help. Each room was recently remodeled.
In addition, there is a nine-unit transitional care unit available for people who need rehabilitation after hospitalization.
Thorne Crest has 130 employees, many who have been with the company for over 20 years.
Anderson said Thorne Crest hopes to have all of its construction completed by the end of the summer.
She said the new wellness center offers many social, recreational, educational and wellness events and activities. The pool and aquatics classes help aging residents keep their strength.
In addition, they take many outings, and have many other indoor entertainment opportunities.
Anderson said there are many long-term staff who are dedicated to providing the best service to the residents.
