The Bikes for Barker eighth annual scholarship fundraiser will begin on Saturday at the Albert Lea American Legion.
Starting at 9 a.m., the day will begin with a benefit breakfast at the American Legion with pancakes, eggs, bacon and more. There is no absolute cost but a suggested donation is $5. During the breakfast there will be a silent auction with chances to win four tickets to the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, 18 holes of golf with a cart for two people at Wedgewood Cove Golf Course and much more.
The scenic 100-mile motorcycle run registration starts at 9 a.m., while the bikes leave at noon. Cost is $20 per motorcycle. The route will start in downtown Albert Lea and end in Lanesboro City Park. The ride is a sober ride before, during and after the run.
If you want to do something a little more family-oriented there will be a bicycle ride that is approximately 11 miles downhill. It starts at the head of the Root River Trail in Fountain and ends at the city park in Lanesboro. Registration is from 1 to 2 p.m. in Fountain. Cost is $10 per family. There will be a free shuttle service leaving from Lanesboro at 4 p.m. to bring bicyclists back to the trailhead to pick up their vehicles.
There will be a celebration at the Lanesboro City Park where lunch will be provided, with a suggested donation of $5.
The Fountain Centers Alumni Association is sponsoring Bikes for Barker to help raise money for the Garth Barker Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to students pursuing a career in chemical dependency counseling.
