After 20 years of painting interior walls in people’s homes, Albert Lean Judy Mummert has redirected her creativity with the opening of The Color Wheel on Main Street in Albert Lea.
The store, which opened in 2014, offers re-purposed furniture painted by Mummert, new gifts, decor and work from local artists.
It also offers Amy Howard one-step paint, which Mummert said she uses to paint her furniture pieces that are for sale. In addition to selling the paint, she can guide her customers through their own painting projects and has done classes using the products.
She said the paint can be used on many different surfaces and is user-friendly.
“I get a lot of satisfaction when a customer comes back in after painting their project with a smile and a picture of their piece,” Mummert said.
The Color Wheel offers many events, including classes on using Amy Howard paints, painting on canvas with a local artist, Pinterest projects and private parties.
In the next year, Mummert said she hopes to continue offering a shopping experience that’s on trend, as well as helping customers re-discover their own furniture pieces using the Amy Howard products.
In the meantime, Mummert wanted to reassure people that despite the construction taking place on South Broadway, there are alternate ways to get to the store.
She said people can get to the store from Washington Street. There is also a parking lot across the street.
