Almost two years after Northwood woman Justina Smith was murdered in Swensrud Park, her family can finally begin to get some closure.

We appreciate the jurors who considered the case and for the relatively speedy verdict.

To the new canoe and kayak rental on Albert Lea Lake.thumbup

If you have never had the opportunity to canoe or kayak on Albert Lea or Fountain Lake, here’s your opportunity.

With the installation of a new canoe and kayak rental near Golden Point Launch at Frank Hall Park, people can go online and rent the watercraft for a day at a time.

What a great idea to allow people to take part in activities on our lakes without having to purchase expensive equipment.

Kudos to the Lakes Foundation of Albert Lea and all others involved for making this a reality.

To the high humidity.thumbs down

The humidity was back Friday with the heat index expected to reach around 95 degrees. Unfortunately this makes being outdoors a little uncomfortable after only a few minutes.

Take precautions to be safe in the heat.

A cold front is expected to drop the temperatures today and make things a bit more comfortable. Let’s enjoy it while it lasts.

To the Naeve Hospital Auxiliary’s $100,000 donation to the Albert Lea hospital.thumbup

Naeve Hospital Auxiliary’s $100,000 donation to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea will go to support scholarships and clinical areas that impact patient and employee safety. Thanks also to the more than 100 volunteers who contributed more than 11,900 volunteer service hours there.

To the two winners of the Tribune’s “Are you Smarter than Al Batt” contest.thumbup

Congratulations to residents Dan Dittrich and Roger Lonning who won the “Are you Smarter than Al Batt” contest.

The Tribune received so many entries from people who had all of the correct answers that we actually had to draw the winners out randomly.

Thanks to everyone who participated!
