For one area bar, bar food isn’t the main staple.

Geneva Bar & Grill boasts a full menu — something owners Greg and Chelsea Hanson said most people don’t realize.

The bar offers daily specials throughout the week, such as prime rib on Friday and Saturday nights. It also has introduced catering, offering food and bar for off-site events such as weddings, birthdays, family reunions and corporate lunches, among other things.

There are also take-out options available.

The Hansons, who have five children between the ages of 2 and 20, bought Geneva Bar & Grill from Barb and Jack Kuchenbecker in November 2014. Greg Hanson worked for Krieger Beverage for 14 years and Chelsea Hanson has worked in the restaurant and food business for 17 years.

The Hansons said the community they serve sets their business apart from others.

“The support of many people has been awesome!” the Hansons said. “It was much appreciated in the transition of ownership and contributes now. We are like a family here.”

Geneva Bar & Grill has 22 part-time employees. Looking to the future, the Hansons want to work on a routine and would like to develop their off-site business. An expansion may even be in the works.

Above all, however, the Hansons hope to keep their good food and family fun reputation.

Coming up is Geneva Bar & Grill Summer Days. Summer Days begins Thursday.
