History should not be misinterpreted

Recently, there has been a lot of controversy over a flag.

Political correctness is indeed running amok thanks to the liberal Democrats. There are people who wish to silence those with whom they disagree and take away the rights of free speech. It was my great-great-great-uncle who served as a general in the Confederate Army who sent fellow Confederate Col. Albert Lea to this area to survey the territory. We must remember that there were families who had sons and brothers who fought on both sides of this terrible war, some for the South and some for the North, my ancestors included.

No matter what a person’s opinion, history should not be forgotten or misinterpreted. This is America, and we’re supposed to be free to express opinions and beliefs without being persecuted and hounded by the press or anyone else.

What’s next? Are we going to change the name of our fair city because Col. Albert Lea fought for the South?
