50 years ago: 1965

• In Church League softball, Conger defeated Grace Lutheran 5-4. Gary Johnson and Dale Grunzke each had two hits for Conger, and Ken Heine was the winning pitcher. In a second game, Trinity-Our Savior’s defeated First Lutheran 10-5. Murph Berg homered for Trinity.

• Jim Wedge and Don Nelson each had three hits for Clarks Grove in its 15-5 win over Interstate in an Albert Lea Slowpitch League game. In a second game, Harold’s Bar defeated Polly Meadows 18-16 behind two home runs by Rog Olson. Al Larson had three hits for Polly Meadows.

• The Cabin Bar raised its Albert Lea Women’s Softball League record to 7-1 after defeating Northside Mobile 19-4. Chris Dahl hit a grand slam for the Cabin Bar.

 

25 years ago: 1990

• The Glenville-Emmons Legion baseball team defeated New Richland 9-3 to win the league title. Pat Ahearn, Tracy Monson and Terry Schilling each had two RBIs for Glenville-Emmons. Glenville-Emmons’ record in league was 6-0, and their season mark to date was 14-3.

• The Albert Lea VFW baseball team lost 5-3 against Owatonna in the sub-district playoffs and finished its season with 13-14 record. Bryan Carlson took the loss for Albert Lea.

 

10 years ago: 2005

• The Albert Lea Union Center U12 traveling baseball team won the Minnesota state championship. Team members were Dalton Westerlund, Colton Casterton, Cody Haaland, Wyeth Anderson, Jordan Crawford, Corey Hansen, Dillon Stolt, Aaron Klatt, Josh Eisengraun, Conner Kortan, Nick Dulas, Cole Sorenson and Carter Kortan. Coaches were Jack Rovane, Dave Klatt and Jack Kortan.

• Megan Pederson threw a two-hitter for Lake Mills in its 5-0 victory over Garner-Hayfield. Lake Mills’ record stood at 29-9.

• In the first round of district playoffs, the Glenville-Emmons Legion baseball team defeated Hayfield 7-5. In their second game, Glenville-Emmons won over Adams 13-2 with Michael Greibrok the winning pitcher. Logan Hansen had four RBIs for Glenville-Emmons.
