ST. PAUL — A bald eagle hit by an SUV in Wisconsin is recovering at a University of Minnesota clinic after being helped by the driver who hit it.

Robbi Tribbey of Superior, Wisconsin, said she and her son were driving near Dairyland on Aug. 23 when the eagle flew in front of their SUV, hitting the front grill and windshield. According to a press release,  they got the eagle out of the road and into a cardboard box.

Tribbey said the eagle stayed in the SUV overnight and they drove it to a Duluth nonprofit the next day. She and her son later volunteered to take it to the University of Minnesota’s Raptor Center in St. Paul.
