MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota coach Jerry Kill has agreed to a one-year contract extension, through the 2019 season.
The deal was announced Friday by the university. Kill gets a $300,000 raise and now will make $2.5 million per season.
Kill starts his fifth year on the job with a 25-26 record that includes losses in three bowl games. They’ve finished 8-5 the last two seasons, though. Highlights of 2014 included their second win over Michigan since 1986, a second straight victory over Nebraska and a 5-3 Big Ten record that was their best since 2003.
If Kill leaves for another job before Feb. 15, he will owe the Gophers a $2.4 million buyout. That number goes down by $600,000 each season through 2019.
Kill is the eighth highest-paid coach in the Big Ten.
