ST. PAUL — Minnesota’s small-grain farmers are making substantial harvest progress while the state’s corn and soybean crops are in great shape.

In its weekly crop progress and condition report for Minnesota, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said Monday that almost half the state’s barley crop was harvested last week, the second-largest portion harvested in one week on record, trailing only a 1990 mark. Thirty-three percent of the spring wheat acreage has been harvested, three weeks ahead of last year’s pace and slightly ahead of average.

Minnesota corn and soybean conditions are rated at their best levels since 2010. The report said 89 percent of the corn crop is in good to excellent condition, up 2 percentage points from last week. Soybean condition is rated 83 percent good to excellent, up 2 points.
