The Preservation Alliance of Minnesota is hosting a workshop on restoring wooden windows from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Freeborn County Historical Museum.
Taught by historic window specialist Paul Schmidt of Restoration Window Systems, this class will teach participants how repairing original wooden windows can save money, improve window operation, boost energy efficiency and maintain architectural integrity. Participants will get a thorough overview on how to repair drafts, deal with glazing and sashes, fix broken glass and much more.
The restoring wooden windows class is limited to 25 participants. Online registration is available through a link at the website for Preservation Alliance of Minnesota, www.preservationmn.org. Tickets are $50 for the four-hour class. Discounts are available for members of the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota and must be purchased prior to Sept. 18.
The Preservation Alliance of Minnesota is a statewide nonprofit organization that leads and inspires people to connect to valued places in their communities. Whether it’s an old home or storefront on the corner, a rural community’s old high school or an urban neighborhood’s long-retired factory, the group works to preserve and protect the bond felt by community members toward these places, the memories such places represent and the distinct characteristics they display.
The organization frequently offers educational programs for those interested in restoring and maintaining their older buildings and welcomes feedback and suggestions for future class topics. Contact Nicole Lindemyer, Preservation Alliance of Minnesota education coordinator, at nlindemyer@mnpreservation.org with any questions or feedback.
This project has been financed in part with funds provided by the state of Minnesota from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the Minnesota Historical Society.
