Weekend Planner: Community worship service slated for last day of county fair

The Freeborn County Fair will have the annual Shinefest community worship service on Sunday. The service kicks off ShineFest activities in the community.

The service begins at 10 a.m. and is set to last about an hour. Admission is free if you arrive before 10 a.m.

Shinefest seeks to promote unity and service in the faith community through southern Minnesota and northern Iowa. Churches from around the area join together for a week of service during the second week of August.

Anyone is welcome to this service, which is taking place at the Freeborn County Fair Grandstand.

 

Friday 

These are a Few of My Favorite Things Art Show is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Albert Lea Art Center.

Heart of the Heartland Art Show is open from 9 a.m.to 4 p.m. at the Freeborn County Arts Initiative. The exhibit is of artwork celebrating the rural Midwest.

The Alden American Legion is having a burger feed from 5 to 8 p.m. at the American Legion in Alden. Cost is $5 for a burger or pork burger with all the fixings and chips.

The Pelican Breeze II pizza cruise leaves at 6 p.m. from Frank Hall Park. Cost is $20. Call by 507-383-7273.

Saturday 

These are a Few of My Favorite Things Art Show is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Albert Lea Art Center.

The Albert Lea Farmers Market is open from 9 a.m. to noon at Northbridge Mall. Homemade breads, baked goods, pickles and honey will be available.

Heart of the Heartland Art Show is open from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Freeborn County Arts Initiative.

The Freeborn American Legion is having a burger and sweet corn feed from 5 to 8 p.m. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 5. The event is all you can eat and will also contain potato salad, coffee and lemonade.

Joe Nichols performs at 8:30 p.m. at the Freeborn County Fair.

 

Sunday 

The Albert Lea American Legion will have a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the American Legion. Pancakes, sausages, diced potatoes, scrambled eggs with or without ham, fruit cup, juice and other beverages will be served.

The Pelican Breeze II cruise leaves at 1:30 p.m. from Frank Hall Park. Cost is $10. There needs to be 10 people for the breeze to go out. Reserve your spot by calling 507-383-7273.

The Freeborn County Fair will have a demolition derby at 4 p.m.
