Coming off their first win of the season, the Tigers couldn’t keep the momentum going.

Rochester John Marshall defeated the Albert Lea girls’ soccer team 4-0 Tuesday in Rochester. The loss brings the Tigers’ record to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in the Big Nine Conference.

According to Albert Lea head coach Rick Barnhill, the most telling statistic from Tuesday was time of possession. The Rockets had possession of the ball in Tigers territory for a total of 56 minutes, more than doubling the Tigers’ 24 minutes of possession.

Goalie Kathryn Flaherty posted the Tigers’ only player stat of the night with 11 saves, compared to the Rockets’ one save.

John Marshall dwarfed Albert Lea in all other game statistics, including outshooting Albert Lea 32-6 and having five corner kicks, while Albert Lea had none.

“We have some harsh realities that are not budging at this time,” Barnhill said. “We’re trying to find a system of play that lessens the demands on each and every player, and we will continue to search until we find that system that allows us to maximize our abilities.”

John Marshall also defeated Albert Lea’s junior varsity 1-0 and C-squad 4-1, respectively.

Next, the Tigers will host Red Wing at 7 p.m. Thursday at Jim Gustafson Field.
